It is available for download from the <a href=\"http:\/\/sourceforge.net\/projects\/maxima\">Source Forge project page<\/a> though.\u00a0 Along with the usual round of bug-fixes and enhancements, this version comes with a lot of extra support for special functions such as the<a href=\"http:\/\/mathworld.wolfram.com\/IncompleteGammaFunction.html\"> Incomplete Gamma Function<\/a> and the <a href=\"http:\/\/mathworld.wolfram.com\/Erf.html\">Error Function<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>For more details concerning what is new in version 5.17 check out the <a href=\"\/images\/maxima\/ChangeLog-5.17.txt\">general<\/a> and <a href=\"\/images\/maxima\/ChangeLog-5.17-special-functions.txt\">special function<\/a> change logs.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The latest version of the free open source computer algebra system, Maxima, was released back in late December but I missed it because it was not mentioned on the news page of the main site.
