{"id":48,"date":"2008-01-10T12:40:36","date_gmt":"2008-01-10T11:40:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.walkingrandomly.com\/?p=48"},"modified":"2008-01-10T12:40:36","modified_gmt":"2008-01-10T11:40:36","slug":"maxima-i-aintnt-dead","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/walkingrandomly.com\/?p=48","title":{"rendered":"Maxima &#8211; &#8220;I aint&#8217;nt dead!&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In a recent <a href=\"http:\/\/sagemath.blogspot.com\/2008\/01\/ams-meeting-day-2-competition.html\">post<\/a> over at the <a href=\"http:\/\/sagemath.blogspot.com\/\">sage math blog<\/a> the author recounts a conversation he had with the well known Wolfram Research employee Eric Weisstein.  According to the post, Eric used <a href=\"http:\/\/maxima.sourceforge.net\/\">Maxima<\/a> as an example of a dead open source mathematics project and was &#8216;shocked&#8217; when told that this was not the case.<\/p>\n<p>I wondered when Maxima last saw a release and was pleasantly surprised to see that the latest version was released just a few weeks ago on December 23rd 2007.  This brings the total number of releases in 2007 to 3 &#8211; quite a way from being dead then.
