There&#8217;s also built in integration with R, 3D Volumetric image processing, enhanced control system support and much more.\u00a0 More details on what&#8217;s new in 9 can be found at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wolfram.co.uk\/mathematica\/new-in-9\/\">http:\/\/www.wolfram.co.uk\/mathematica\/new-in-9\/<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Version 4.2 of Geogebra is now available.\u00a0 See <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.geogebra.org\/2012\/11\/4-2-release-candidate\/\">http:\/\/blog.geogebra.org\/2012\/11\/4-2-release-candidate\/<\/a> for the new stuff.\u00a0 One of the most exciting new developments is the new <a href=\"http:\/\/wiki.geogebra.org\/en\/CAS_View\">Computer Algebra System (CAS) view<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Version 5.4.1 of Sage, the free alternative to Mathematica,Maple,Magma and MATLAB and been released.\u00a0 See <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sagemath.org\/mirror\/src\/changelogs\/sage-5.4.1.txt\">http:\/\/www.sagemath.org\/mirror\/src\/changelogs\/sage-5.4.1.txt<\/a> for what&#8217;s new.<\/li>\n<li>A minor upgrade to Maple has been released.\u00a0 The enhancements available in 16.02 are detailed at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.maplesoft.com\/support\/downloads\/m16_02update.aspx\">http:\/\/www.maplesoft.com\/support\/downloads\/m16_02update.aspx<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Libraries<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The Fast Library for Number Theory, FLINT, was updated to version 2.3 on November 9th.\u00a0 See what&#8217;s new in this C library by taking a look at the <a href=\"http:\/\/github.com\/wbhart\/flint2\/blob\/trunk\/NEWS\">NEWS<\/a>\u00a0file.<\/li>\n<li>MAGMA is a GPU accelerated linear algebra library from the Innovative Computing Laboratory (ICL) at the University of Tennessee.\u00a0 According to the <a href=\"http:\/\/icl.cs.utk.edu\/magma\/news\/news.html?id=311\">release announcement<\/a>, version 1.3 of the library includes some performance improvements and support for the new <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nvidia.com\/object\/nvidia-kepler.html\">NVIDIA-Kepler GPUs<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>PLASMA is another linear algebra library from the people at ICL and it too has seen a new release.\u00a0 Version 2.5.0 Beta 1 contains a couple of new algorithms, bug fixes and performance enhancements&#8211;check out the <a href=\"http:\/\/icl.cs.utk.edu\/plasma\/news\/news.html?id=310\">release announcement<\/a> for the details.\u00a0 A nice paper that explains the differences between PLASMA and Magma is available at <a href=\"http:\/\/icl.cs.utk.edu\/news_pub\/submissions\/plasma-scidac09.pdf\">http:\/\/icl.cs.utk.edu\/news_pub\/submissions\/plasma-scidac09.pdf<\/a><\/li>\n<li>The HSL library is &#8216;a collection of state-of-the-art packages for large-scale scientific computation written and developed by the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.stfc.ac.uk\/CSE\/26555.aspx\">Numerical Analysis Group<\/a>\u00a0at the STFC Rutherford Appleton Laboratory&#8217;\u00a0 It saw a few updates throughout November &#8211; see the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hsl.rl.ac.uk\/changes.html\">project&#8217;s change log<\/a> for details.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Mobile<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>SoftMaker have released their <a href=\"http:\/\/www.softmaker.com\/english\/ofa_en.htm\">office suite for Android devices<\/a> and my first impressions are that it blows the competition out of the water.\u00a0 Although the Word and Powerpoint alternatives are fine, the app that might be of most interest to readers of this article is, of course, the spreadsheet app, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.softmaker.com\/english\/ofapm_en.htm\">PlanMaker<\/a>.\u00a0 This initial release includes over 330 calculation functions and has support for complex numbers, arrays and 3d charts.<\/li>\n<li>MathStudio, one of the best mathematical apps for mobile devices has been updated to version 5.4.Other than adding suport for iOS 6 and iPhone 5 I have no idea what&#8217;s new since the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mathstudio.net\/blog\/2012\/11\/13\/mathstudio-v5-4-is-on-the-app-store\/\">release annoucement<\/a> is rather sparse.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Bits and pieces<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The numeric javascript library has been updated to 1.2.4.\u00a0 This is mainly a big-fix release with full details at <a href=\"http:\/\/numericjs.com\/wordpress\/?p=66\">http:\/\/numericjs.com\/wordpress\/?p=66<\/a><\/li>\n<li>The commercial computer algebra system, Magma, is now at version 2.18-11.\u00a0 See what&#8217;s new at <a href=\"http:\/\/magma.maths.usyd.edu.au\/magma\/releasenotes\/2\/18\/12\/\">http:\/\/magma.maths.usyd.edu.au\/magma\/releasenotes\/2\/18\/12\/<\/a><\/li>\n<li>The free open-source linear algebra library <a href=\"http:\/\/viennacl.sourceforge.net\/\">ViennaCL<\/a>\u00a0 is now available in version 1.4.0. In addition to the OpenCL-based computing backend, the new release now also provides a CUDA- and an OpenMP-backend.
