{"id":376,"date":"2008-11-26T15:49:24","date_gmt":"2008-11-26T14:49:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.walkingrandomly.com\/?p=376"},"modified":"2008-11-26T15:56:26","modified_gmt":"2008-11-26T14:56:26","slug":"nominations-for-the-2008-eddies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/walkingrandomly.com\/?p=376","title":{"rendered":"Nominations for the 2008 Eddies"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A friend of mine pointed out that I haven&#8217;t yet made any nominations for this year&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/edublogawards.com\/2008\/\">Edublog awards<\/a> so here they are.<\/p>\n<p>My nomination for the <strong>Best Resource Sharing Blog 2008 <\/strong>is <a href=\"http:\/\/tcmtechnologyblog.blogspot.com\/\">The Teaching College Math Technology Blog<\/a> which is written by Maria Andersen.\u00a0 The amount of technology that can be applied to teaching in mathematics is truly staggering from <a href=\"http:\/\/tcmtechnologyblog.blogspot.com\/2008\/11\/mathematica-7-is-for-everyone.html\">Mathematica<\/a> through to technologies such as <a href=\"http:\/\/tcmtechnologyblog.blogspot.com\/2008\/11\/webassign-graphpad.html\">GraphPad<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/tcmtechnologyblog.blogspot.com\/2008\/10\/reason-to-be-excited-about-windows-7.html\">Windows 7<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/tcmtechnologyblog.blogspot.com\/2008\/11\/periodic-reminder.html\">Interactive Tables<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/tcmtechnologyblog.blogspot.com\/search\/label\/Jing\">Jing<\/a>.\u00a0 Maria not only informs us of these technologies but she actually uses them in her teaching and reports on the results &#8211; what works, what doesn&#8217;t, what is useful and what could be made better.\u00a0 With so much cool stuff to play with, it almost makes me wish I was a Maths teacher.<\/p>\n<p>My other nomination is for the <strong>Best Group Blog 2008<\/strong> and the nominee is <a href=\"http:\/\/threesixty360.wordpress.com\/\">360<\/a>.\u00a0 360 is an unofficial Blog of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.naz.edu\/dept\/math\/\">Nazareth College Math Department<\/a> in Rochester, New York and it offers a wide range of interesting mathematical tidbits.\u00a0 I find myself returning to 360 again and again since they manage to simulatenously entertain and inform on the subject of mathematics.\u00a0 For example &#8211; in the last month alone they have written articles on (among other things) <a href=\"http:\/\/threesixty360.wordpress.com\/2008\/11\/25\/nicolaus-copernicus-lost-and-found\/\">Copernicus<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/threesixty360.wordpress.com\/2008\/11\/24\/a-paltry-geometric-dilemma-part-2\/\">geometry puzzles<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/threesixty360.wordpress.com\/2008\/11\/19\/kenken\/\">kenKen<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/threesixty360.wordpress.com\/2008\/11\/15\/generating-pythagorean-triples\/\">Pythagorean Triples<\/a> and how fourier transforms were used to <a href=\"http:\/\/threesixty360.wordpress.com\/2008\/11\/03\/a-hard-days-night-math-find-a-missing-piano\/\">answer questions about a song by the Beatles<\/a>.\u00a0 Quite simply &#8211; one of my favourite maths blogs.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A friend of mine pointed out that I haven&#8217;t yet made any nominations for this year&#8217;s Edublog awards so here they are.
