{"id":1292,"date":"2009-05-18T10:36:37","date_gmt":"2009-05-18T09:36:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.walkingrandomly.com\/?p=1292"},"modified":"2009-05-18T10:36:37","modified_gmt":"2009-05-18T09:36:37","slug":"to-walpha-a-new-verb-for-searching","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/walkingrandomly.com\/?p=1292","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;To Walpha&#8217; &#8211; a new verb for searching?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I was geeking out majorly yesterday while watching the new <a href=\"http:\/\/www.startrek.com\/startrek\/view\/index.html\">Star Trek<\/a> movie with some friends and we got around to discussing Wolfram Alpha a fair bit (well, I was doing most of the talking to be honest &#8211; I&#8217;d had a LOT of coffee).<\/p>\n<p>As I was explaining what it could and couldn&#8217;t do &#8211; I found myself saying &#8216;if you search for XYZ on Wolfram Alpha then..&#8217; a lot and it quickly got old as it was nowhere near as succinct as &#8216;if you google XY then&#8230;&#8221;.\u00a0 It wasn&#8217;t long before I found myself saying &#8216;If you Walpha XYZ then&#8230;&#8217; and no one pulled me up on it.\u00a0 Rather than saying &#8216;What the hell are you talking about&#8230;there is no such word as Walpha.&#8217; &#8211; my friends uncounciously started using the term themselves.<\/p>\n<p>Wonder if it will catch on?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I was geeking out majorly yesterday while watching the new Star Trek movie with some friends and we got around to discussing Wolfram Alpha a fair bit (well, I was doing most of the talking to be honest &#8211; I&#8217;d had a LOT of coffee).
