I collect bugs in computer algebra systems and this is a particularly amusing one in my opinion.  If you evaluate 2^31 using Mathcad&#8217;s symbolic engine in version 14 then you get a negative result!  It comes up with the following<\/p>\n<p>2^31-&gt; -2147 483648<\/p>\n<p>Note the negative sign! No computer algebra system is perfect but it is not often that you get a bug from such an elementary calculation &#8211; shame on you Mathcad!  At least it gets the right result if you use its numerical engine<\/p>\n<p>2^31 = 2.147 *10^9<\/p>\n<p>Hopefully <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ptc.com\/\">PTC<\/a> will be releasing a bug fix soon.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Some people collect stamps, some collect coins.
